How can you help reduce Berkshire County’s drinking culture?
Start by reducing your own alcohol use, especially around people under 21.
Participate in Dry January, Sober October, fitness plans and other temporary breaks from alcohol.
Explore the free, evidence-based TryDry App.
Try a variety of juices, teas, mocktails, shrubs, seltzers, and other no/lo drinks that have the flavor and complexity of alcoholic beverages. Share your favorites with your friends!
People drink less when they believe others around them do, too.
Even cutting back a little reduces your risk of cancer.
When hosting, “flip the script” — start by offering guests sparkling water, juice, or other beverages instead of leading with wine or beer.
talk to your teens about alcohol! Set clear guidelines, focus on health and safer consumption if/when they choose to drink.
Avoid fear-based messages (“This is your brain on drugs”). People don’t believe them if they don’t see immediate negative effects.
“Grow your best brain” — the part of your brain responsible for rational thinking and decision-making continues growing until about age 25, and can be damaged by alcohol use.
